On the 25 November 2015, The Donkey Sanctuary will celebrate 40 years of providing donkey assisted therapy for children with additional needs. Throughout the week of the 23-27 of November, The Donkey Sanctuary Leeds will be celebrating this momentous occasion.
Users of the centre old and new, along with their families, are invited to join the celebration between 3.30pm and 5.30pm on Thursday 26 November to have a slice of supersized 40th anniversary cake and celebrate this milestone for the charity amongst their peers.
Each riding therapy user during that week will receive a special commemorative gift, and during their Twilight Session on Thursday there will be a celebratory party!
All the cards and artwork that schools, groups and individual riders have made for this special occasion will be on display for everyone to see.
Over the last 40 years, The Donkey Sanctuary’s donkey assisted therapy programme has grown and now gives over 50,000 donkey assisted therapy sessions a year. Through these projects in the UK and overseas the lives of children and adults with additional needs are immeasurably improved by the emotional, mental and physical therapy that close contact with these rescued donkeys provides and the donkeys also benefit from the stimulation and contact.
