According to reports in a national newspaper, Burnley Football Club have finally agreed a deal with Leeds United to sign striker Chris Wood in a deal worth an initial £15m. The Clarets were determined to land Wood after boss Sean Dyche told their board that the New Zealand striker was his No 1 choice to replace Andre Gray.

Burnley returned to Wood after having an £11.8million offer for Deportivo La Coruna’s striker Florin Andone rejected and Dyche feels the Kiwi can score in the top flight.

Leeds United were keen to hang on to Chris Wood and offered him a three-year contract extension on his current £15,000-a-week deal in an attempt to persuade him to stay.  But Wood was desperate to move to the Premier League once he knew of Burnley’s interest.

It is understood that Chris Wood will travel down to Burnley for his medical tomorrow from the North East hotel where Leeds stayed ahead of the clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Steeton AFC v Route One Rovers

Steeton AFC 2 v 1 Route One Rovers (West Riding County Amateur League)

Route One Rovers arrived at the Doris Wells Memorial Field for the second league match of the season in the West Riding Amateur League.  Steeton were looking to continue their excellent form, following Saturday’s 6-0 victory over Dram Community.

Both teams started the game well in what was a fast flowing game with some excellent one touch football.  Steeton made great use of the ball in the midfield and in wide area’s with Joe Park and Alex Yates making telling runs down the channels before providing some good crosses for Ben Clarkson in the visitors area.

Route One Rovers were one of the better sides to have visited Summerhill Lane this season and they played their part in an entertaining match. The visitors gave the home defence something to think about with a number of good runs and some excellent long range efforts that tested Wayne Mahomet and the Steeton defence.

However, it was the home side that took the lead on ten minutes after a Ben Clarkson header could only be pushed into the air by the visiting goalkeeper, leaving Alistair Morgan with a simple header from six yards to give Steeton the lead.

Steeton 3The visitors should have drawn level midway through the first-half following a corner into the Steeton area, the visiting captain had a free header from four yards which he put over Mahomet’s crossbar.

The rest of the half continued in much the same way with both sides playing some attractive football whilst creating a number of chances, but the half-finished with the score 1-0 to Steeton.

Steeton 1

Steeton started the second half the stronger of the two teams in a half that went much the same way as the first.  However Steeton extended their lead, as Alex Yates collected the ball inside the visitors area on the left side, before sending a curling shot passed the visitors keeper into the right-hand side of the goal to give the home side a 2-0 lead.

Steeton 2

The visitors did manage to pull a goal back on seventy-five minutes, to make the final fifteen minutes very interesting.  However Steeton were always in control of what was an excellent game of football at Summerhill Lane.  The victory leaves Steeton joint-top in the West Riding County Amateur League with two more home game in the next week.
