CLASSIC ROCK SHOW: Top 20 Greatest Guitar Riffs of All Time
From the opening sounds of Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love to Queen’s powerhouse anthem We Will Rock You via AC/DCs Back in Black and everything in between, the Classic Rock Show will focus on songs best known for their irresistible guitar hooks; instantly recognisable songs that have earned a golden status in the history of popular music. The two and a half hour foot-stomping ride features the music of The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Queen, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, Eric Clapton and Fleetwood Mac.

American female vocal group The Three Degrees, formed in 1963, are well known for their soulful voices, beautiful gowns, and fabulous stage shows. With songs including When Will I See You Again, Dirty Ol’ Man and Take Good Care Of Yourself, they have been touring for more than 40 years.

AN EVENING WITH IAN MCCULLOCH
Formed in Liverpool in 1978, Echo & the Bunnymen grew to become one of the UK’s most popular indie rock bands responsible for hit albums and singles such as The Cutter, Seven Seas, Bring on the Dancing Horses, The Killing Moon and Nothing Lasts Forever. Front man Ian McCulloch will be giving a rare solo performance at City Varieties and will feature stripped down versions of classic Bunnymen tracks as well as songs from his own solo catalogue.

JIMMY WEBB – ‘AN EVENING OF SONGS AND STORIES’
Jimmy Webb has influenced generations of musicians worldwide from Billy Joel to John Mayer, from Keith Urban to Rumer. He has topped the country, disco and pop music charts with a list of artists astounding in its diversity and he remains a trailblazer among songwriters 50 years after his first hit. Whatever kind of music you like, the chances are there’s a Jimmy Webb song on your personal playlist. Webb now brings his multi-platinum playlist on the road in an intimate evening of songs and stories. Webb looks back on his days as the son of an evangelical minister in Oklahoma City and describes how he navigated fame and fortune.

Yorkshire’s Kate Rusby will appear at City Varieties in April. Audiences are sure to be thoroughly entertained by the folk singer’s choice of much-loved classics from her back catalogue stretching over her two decades of music making together with a selection of fresh new songs from her latest album Ghost (released summer 2014). As ever, she will be joined on stage by the cream of British folk musicians who form her band.
