Leeds was blessed with a variety of global stars at The MOBO Awards.
The event had the city of Leeds talking for months and some estimates claimed it was going to bring over £1 million into the local economy. The event itself didn’t disappoint.
The 20th annual awards took place on the 4th November 2015 in front of a sold out first direct arena, and celebrities in attendance included Rita Ora, Lenny Henry, Robert Pattinson, Idris Elba, Cee Lo Green and more, whilst fans were also treated to performances from a huge range of musicians. The awards were hosted by the superb Sarah-Jane Crawford, formerly of BBC Radio 1Xtra and The Xtra Factor, who was superb through out.
Starting the show off, Lethal Bizzle arrived in a bold Lamborghini and performed ‘Fester Skank’ to the delight of the thousands in attendance. His performance was followed up by music from Krept & Konan, Lianne La Havas, Ella Eyre and the incredible Rita Ora.
On the awards side, Stormzy and Krept & Konan were the big winners of the night as they picked up the prestigious ‘Male Artist of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ awards. Comedian and actor Lenny Henry was also recognised for his contributions as he was given a ‘Paving The Way’ Award.
All that was left was a huge name to take us home and it was up to Cee Lo Green to finish off the superb night in Leeds. Performing ‘Crazy’ and ‘Forget You’, the night ended on a fantastic note.
This was the first time the prestigious awards had been held in Leeds and it was a fantastic showcase of Britain’s unsung musical talent and simultaneously, a fantastic showcase of our great city.
