WinterFest – The First Northern UK Vegan Christmas Market debuting in Leeds City Centre
Organised by Victoria Bryceson, Animal Hero Awards Animal Enthusiast of the Year 2015
Sunday 22nd November 2015 will see the debut of the Northern’s first ever Vegan Christmas Festival in Leeds Town Hall, Leeds City Centre from 11am – 5pm.
The festival is hosted by The Great Yorkshire Vegan Festival, one of the largest animal friendly festivals in the North of the UK and the only one of its kind in Yorkshire.
After the huge success of The Great Yorkshire Vegan Festival in June 2015 where 3500 people attended, the iconic Town Hall venue allows for lots of space and a wide range of activities to take place.
Visitors will have 150 stalls to look round both indoors and outdoors, free festive samples, music, several live cookery demonstrations, talks/workshops, an all day bar, children’s activities and a films.
The festival, run 100% voluntarily in aid of animal welfare charities including Miracle’s Mission is set to attract thousands of visitors into the centre of Leeds, not only vegetarians and vegans but also others interested in seeing what the festival has to offer.
Founder Victoria set the festival up with the aim of promoting animal welfare and how to live a more ethical and healthy lifestyle throughout the festive period.
She hopes that many non vegetarians and non vegans will attend as ‘it will be a fantastic day out regardless of whether you consume meat and dairy or not’ and says ‘the idea behind the festival is not to push people into becoming vegetarian and vegan, it is simply to educate and inform and offer support to anybody who would like it.
Everybody is most welcome to attend and non vegans and non vegetarians will be surprised at how much there is for them there as so many of the products people consume and buy are vegetarian or vegan anyway without people even realising.
It is all about trying new things and opening people’s eyes to new possibilities. Cutting out meat and dairy from your diet can seem extremely daunting and many people are increasingly looking for alternatives as they want to live more healthily and ethically but they also want to do it affordably and without it being boring.
The festival will show how possible this is to do.’ Victoria says ‘The North has been crying out for a large ethical Christmas event.
Both stall holders and visitors have been asking us to put on a Christmas event in Leeds and it is already looking like a sell out as over half of our stalls were booked within just one week of announcing the festival date, we had sold several before the date was even announced.’
The food stalls will highlight how varied and exciting a vegan diet can be with hot and cold food available including Asian, Mediterranean, raw food, vegan cheese, street foods, sausages and burgers. For the sweet toothed there will be a range of stalls including chocolates, cup-cakes, cream cakes and sweets.
There will be a whole range of non food stalls at the event which is timed perfectly for people starting their Christmas shopping, selling a wide variety of items including clothing, alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, jewellery and gifts.
There will also be several animal welfare charity stalls raising awareness of some fantastic causes. For anybody who would like to get involvedwith volunteering this is an ideal place to talk to lots of different charities and gather information and the stall holders would love to talk to as many people as possible and answer any questions.
Entry into the festival is just £2 (under 16’s free) and this includes entry to all areas and activities.
Standard tickets are purchased at the door on the day. VIP tickets can be purchased in advance but sell out quickly.
