‘Behind the Mask’: BAFTA Photography by Andy Gotts at the Gallery Munro House An exciting exhibition is currently being held at The Gallery at Munro House, until the beginning of August. Andy Gotts, an internationally known photographer who considers himself ‘a photographer of actors’ has travelled the world to snap pictures of over 100 renowned actors and actresses that have either won or been nominated for a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) award. ‘Behind the Mask’ is seen as a photographic archive of those that have won or been nominated for the award since 1954. Being a celebration of portraits, film and celebrity, Andy’s inspiration for the exhibit was to capture the essence of each actor as he saw them, in an uncontrived fashion. The project has been on-going for the past two years and Gotts revelled in the opportunity to meet some of his greatest idols and represent them on film. Some of the actors and actresses featured in this exhibit include (but aren’t limited to), Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Caine, Javier Bardem, Tilda Swinton, and the late Heath Ledger. Andy Gotts MBE said this about the exhibition:
The showcase runs from Friday 2nd July until Sunday 1st August 2015, so there is still plenty of time to pay the gallery a visit, to see the creativity and candid beauty of the art. It can even become a day for the whole family, as there’s a café and gift shop adjacent to the exhibit. Signed copies of the full exhibition catalogue (while stocks last) are also available for purchase. See contact details for the gallery below, for further information.
