Leeds Lights Switch-On 2015
12 November 2015 6:45pm – 8:15pm
The countdown to Christmas officially starts with the annual Leeds Lights Switch-On on Victoria Gardens.
The Leeds Lights Switch-On show hosted by Dixie and Emma from Heart Breakfast, will start from around 6.45pm at Victoria Gardens off the Headrow (LS1 3AA).
Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro who wowed judges on the TV talent show with their performances of musical theatre favourites, will take to the stage on the night. The group, made up of Michael Auger, Richard Hadfield, Jamie Lambert, Matt Pagan and Thomas J Redgrave, recorded a UK number one album after victory in the 2014 series of Britain’s Got Talent. Richard said: “We’re so excited and we’re going to do a couple of Christmas songs. We’re all looking forward to it!”
The show will also feature CBeebies presenters Alex Winters and Cat Sandiona leading a festive sing-a-long. Lee Brennan from boyband 911 will be joining the party too as he’s starring in the title role of this year’s production of Aladdin at the Carriageworks Theatre.
Rock Choir is the original and most popular amateur contemporary choir in the UK. The 40-strong ensemble from the Leeds Rock Choir will perform a selection of well-known hit songs together with a Christmas medley including original vocal arrangements.
There will also be live performances from the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, who are appearing at West Yorkshire Playhouse, and from Breeze has Talent 2015 winners The Richards, a singing and rapping guitar duo who wowed judges earlier this year.
Other guests are yet to be announced, but other attractions on the night will include fun fair rides along Cookridge Street, and a spectacular firework display lighting up the city’s skyline to mark the big switch-on of one of the UK’s largest displays of city centre festive illuminations.
As part of the lights switch on, the following road closures will also be in place on the night along with other traffic management measures.
-Headrow (Oxford Place to Albion Street): 6pm to 8.45pm
-Cookridge Street (Headrow to St Annes Street): from 1pm
