The last few years have been huge for the city with so much happening and going on. I thought I’d give you an insight into some of my favourite places to hang out, all of which I’ve discovered since I moved here.

First up is Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen. I wish I’d discovered this place sooner. It’s a canteen, live music venue and sun terrace, split across three levels. I’m pretty certain it’s the only place in the city where you can get a slice of ‘sausage fest’ pizza, listen to live music and drink a pint in a shed! Go check it out, it’s always a great laugh.

Canal Mills hosts some of the biggest names in music, like Disclosure who played there on New Year’s Eve last year. They also hold some really cool ‘pop up’ events. One of the best at the moment is the Brandon Street Night Market. The food and drink available is from some of the best street traders around, and you’ll always discover something new. Alongside that there’s live music, plus clothing and art creations for sale. It’s a really decent way to spend a Friday night.

Getting up at the crack of dawn for my weekday Capital Breakfast show with Danny and JoJo means lots of early nights during the week. However, when it comes to the weekend, we love a good Saturday night out on the town! The number one antidote to a big night out is definitely a Sunday roast. Meat, potatoes and gravy can cure the after effects of one too many drinks from the night before. Two of the greatest roasts in the city can be found at Town Hall Tavern (you’ll pass it as you head into town from Opal 1&2) and Shears Yard (just along from Call Lane). Both are almost as good as my mum’s, but with much less awkward questioning about the night before!

Catch me, Danny and JoJo on Capital Breakfast weekdays from 6am.
